Following last night's earthquake in Lazio, the Ministry of Cultural Heritage, according to government sources, has activated its crisis unit to assess any damage to cultural heritage. "Fortunately, so far there have been no reports of damage to property or people; we have civil defense monitoring the situation. Of course, there was a lot of fear; it was felt so loud. Everyone took to the streets," explained Alessandra Sabelli, mayor of San Cesareo, a few kilometers from the epicenter of this evening's earthquake in Lazio. "I'm not in town right now," he continued, "but I immediately contacted the Carabinieri commander. There was no damage to property or people, and everything was under control. Civil Protection is now monitoring the entire area. Tomorrow morning, the first thing we'll do at 7:00 a.m. will be a tour of all municipal buildings, especially the nursery school. Those will be the first things to check. However, I haven't ordered the school to close at this time." Inspections are also underway in Guidonia Montecelio following the strong earthquake felt near Rome. As Guidonia Montecelio's mayor, Michel Barbet, wrote in a Facebook post, "Shortly before 10:45 p.m. on June 23, the population of the Roman hinterland felt a strong earthquake: according to initial data from the INGV, it was a magnitude 3.7 earthquake with its epicenter in the municipality of Colonna." "The mayor is currently monitoring the situation, and teams from the Civil Protection and Red Cross have been activated immediately and are patrolling the various neighborhoods of Guidonia Montecelio to assess the situation and respond to reports from residents," he concludes. "At this time, no damage to property or people has been reported."
