"Following delays in waste removal in Naples and the surrounding province, which have led to piles of debris, the first fires have begun. One of these was documented in a video complaint posted by a citizen of Scampia. This is a problem that is being addressed by the authorities, who are working to resolve it as quickly as possible. The delays in removal are due to the temporary maintenance shutdown of some waste treatment plants in the Metropolitan City of Naples. We strongly urge citizens to avoid fires and uncivilized behavior until the situation returns to normal." These are the statements of regional councilor for the Green Party, Francesco Emilio Borrelli, and spokesperson for the Sole Che Ride party in Campania, Vincenzo Peretti. "On the Greens' social media pages," they add, "reports of piles of waste in the streets continue to arrive. We are monitoring the situation as closely as possible. We are collaborating to find solutions that will resolve the problem as quickly as possible, but we ask for the citizens' full cooperation. Setting fire to garbage is not a solution and causes the dioxin generated by combustion to spread into the air."
