Torre del Greco. A garbage emergency is underway in the Coral City, with piles of uncollected waste on every street corner, mostly overflowing with unsorted garbage. This is a snapshot of yet another emergency related to the garbage collection system affecting the Naples area due to difficulties in delivering waste to the Tufino waste treatment plant. Torre del Greco, the largest city in the entire Vesuvius area and the fourth-largest municipality in terms of population, is experiencing a critical situation due to the garbage emergency and high temperatures. "The situation stems from the difficulties encountered at the waste-to-energy plant, where in some cases trucks can take several days to deliver their waste," says Mayor Palomba. "The fact is that the mayor has announced a meeting between several administrations to try to identify a common strategy to deal with this situation, which will also prepare for the other emergency approaching, the one in September, already announced by Governor De Luca, when the Acerra waste-to-energy plant will close for a fairly long time."
