IThe preliminary hearing judge of Aosta Davide Paladino has sentenced Maria Esposito, 47, and Gianluca Palmieri (28), both originally from Naples, to four years in prison each. They were accused of aggravated fraud, theft by snatching and improper use of credit cards. The carabinieri had arrested them last February. The prosecution was represented by the prosecutor Francesco Pizzato. “I am a judge of the court of Aosta. Your son hit a pedestrian: to avoid being reported you must prepare an envelope with 5 thousand euros in cash, or the equivalent in gold. A carabiniere will come to your house to collect it”: after an unidentified accomplice called the elderly people, the attempted fraud was triggered – according to the investigations. On February 6, Palmieri had identified himself to a seventy-eight-year-old woman from Aosta as a carabiniere and, when asked to provide her with an identification card, he had snatched her purse with 250 euros and some gold jewelry. They had been checked in via Volontari del sangue by a patrol. In their car there was also another bag with jewels that would have been the result of a scam on February 5. Esposito and Palmieri had also been recognized by the soldiers of the Aosta Company in the images taken by a camera of a shop in the capital, where they had made purchases with a debit card that would have been stolen following a scam on an elderly person that took place last January.
