Filming has begun on the documentary film “Waiting for the 30th Summer Universiade Naples 2019”, produced by the Film Commission Regione Campania and directed by Neapolitan director Francesco Patierno. A 26-minute visual story that explores the places in Campania that will host the international sporting event from 3 to 14 July. A behind-the-scenes look that will show the point of view of the organizers and volunteers, technicians, fitters, athletes, citizens, tourists and protagonists of the many activities that revolve around the event. “It will not be a documentary narration but will have a cinematic style, with a visual and emotional impact where emotions will prevail – explained the director – There will be no static images but moving shots. Even the interviews will be fluid, dynamic: the event testimonials themselves lend themselves to a colloquial, informal story. Then there is the side, the most exciting one, linked to the kids who are appearing for the first time on the scene of an international event like the Universiade. Theirs – he added – is an 'uncontaminated' point of view that I will try to convey to the viewer. The experience that these guys are having is highly formative, because the international experiences that form the most are above all those related to sport”. The author of “Pater familias”, his debut film directed in 2003, then talks about his city, and the impact that the event could have on the Neapolitan capital. “At the end of the 800th century – he said – Naples was at a crossroads: choosing whether to become an industrial or tourist city. The first choice was made. Only in recent years has Naples understood that it had to focus on tourism, and since then its image has grown. Now many influencers indicate Naples as the city of the future: in research, in high technology, in fashion. From this point of view, the Universiade can do a lot in promoting excellence and encouraging an increase in tourist flows. Another interesting thing about this event – continued Patierno – are the dozens of sports facilities throughout Campania that have been renovated, thanks to a crazy economic commitment, and that represent a precious legacy for the younger generations. From what I see and perceive I can say – concluded the director – that the Universiade represents a challenge won”.
