The torch of the Universiade Napoli 2019, a symbol of peace, unity and brotherhood, was blessed by Pope Francis at the end of the general audience in the Vatican, in the presence of the President of the Campania Region, Vincenzo De Luca, the presidents of FISU, Oleg Matytsin, and of CUSI, Lorenzo Lentini, the extraordinary commissioner for the Universiade, Gianluca Basile, the rector of the Federico II University of Naples, Gaetano Manfredi, and the president of the Italian Paralympic Committee, Luca Pancalli. It was the athlete Dariya Derkach who presented the torch to the Pope for blessing, which arrived in the Vatican City from Assisi on its journey from Turin, home of the first Universiade, through all of Italy to Naples.
