“As long as we are forced to witness situations like the one that occurs, now with almost daily frequency, in via Scarlatti al Vomero, near number 59, the problem of the presence of garbage, in the capital of Naples, can never be considered solved – stigmatizes Gennaro Capodanno, president of the Comitato Valori collinari -. A mountain of garbage, leaning against the recycling bins, with waste of all types, including packaging, wooden boxes and bulky items, growing out of all proportion by the hour, has invaded the sidewalk once again this morning”.

"With the further aggravating factor - Capodanno points out - that in the stretch of road, located between Piazza Vanvitelli and Via Morghen, where this incredible situation is recorded, along which, moreover, several commercial activities for the sale and supply of food open, tourists who go to the San Martino area pass in large numbers. This morning some of them were photographing the enormous pile of garbage which, certainly, does not constitute an incentive for foreigners to come and visit the many beauties of the Neapolitan capital ".

"To date, the numerous reports made to resolve the problem have been of no avail - continues Capodanno - A situation that has been present for some time and that, given the continuing lack of suitable and effective measures, risks continuing to reoccur in the coming days. Yet another clear testimony, which adds to many others highlighted in recent days also in other areas, of the failure of separate waste collection to take off in the hilly area of the City ".

"We would like to take this opportunity to find out what happened to the much-touted environmental police in the past who had to hand out very high fines to those who deposited waste, including packaging, outside of the permitted hours," Capodanno points out. "The only ones to rejoice over this state of affairs could be the rats that, attracted by the bad smells emanating from the waste deposited on the street, notoriously draw their nourishment, also to proliferate, from it. In this regard, also following the reports of the presence of rats and cockroaches, it is hoped that the competent offices will quickly develop an energetic and effective calendar of initiatives for rodent control and disinfestation."

On the absurd and unacceptable situation of hygienic-sanitary degradation that is being determined by the presence of piles of waste abandoned on the street, but also by the reports of rats and cockroaches, Capodanno hopes that the appropriate initiatives will be promoted, providing, at the same time, immediately and systematically to eliminate all the inconveniences complained of, to safeguard and protect the health of citizens.
