Tonia Sorrentino, a 31-year-old Neapolitan with a degree in Restoration from the Faculty of Cultural Heritage, dreams of bringing an American-style bakery to the historic center of Naples, at Via Conte di Ruvo, 8.. His dream began with a trip to the United States to celebrate his graduation, in ccity that never sleeps: New York.
“New York is a city that takes your breath away, full of ideas and life. Throughout my vacation I kept coming across hundreds of shop windows with inviting, colorful and decorated sweets, prepared with grace but above all festive. I wanted to relive those same emotions in my beloved Naples and I wanted all Neapolitans to be able to experience them through my sweets. So, when I returned home, I decided, after a long apprenticeship, to open my American-style bakery right here!” these are Tonia's words. After about 7 years from that trip, in fact, she managed to set up her very personal project, “Whip Bakery”, precisely, enchanting, in 2017, the historic center of Naples. “Whip!” is the first bakery in the historic center of Naples, with an urban, modern and stylish decor, but above all welcoming, where you can spend sweet moments and taste real delicacies. The offer is truly very wide and combines Neapolitan creativity with American uniqueness to give life to sweet and savory dreams: from the captivating American cakes (Red Velvet, New York cheesecake, cup cake, cookies) to the savory specialties (caesar salad, club sandwich, onion rings and much more). The artisanal workmanship, the first choice products and the quality of the creations of the chef Tonia (who is already the owner of “Parentesi Graffe” with her family), make “Whip!” a much loved place in the city. In fact, she has managed to bring together Neapolitan tastes with elaborate American recipes, with commitment and dedication.
“American desserts are delicious but a little cloying and sometimes they are also a little heavy. To bring them closer to the tastes of my fellow citizens, I worked day and night in my laboratory, finding solutions suited to the Neapolitan palate and making American recipes mine, let's say: with a Tonia touch!”
The real challenge of “Whip!” and its creator, Tonia Sorrentino, however, for this summer 2019 in Naples, is the Ice Roll.
A must have for summer all over the world, it couldn't be missing in our city. These are ice cream rolls in many flavors, prepared at the moment and enriched with syrups, sprinkles, sugars or fruit. To create Ice Rolls you need ad hoc equipment, a specially designed mix and a good dose of manual skill.
“I am the first to bring rolled ice cream here in Naples. I love challenges, I love to amaze my customers and I decided to “tempt” them with this great innovation that comes from Thailand. The extraordinary thing about this product, obviously in addition to the rolled shape, is its freshness. The ice cream is in fact prepared at the moment and is soft and tasty on the palate. A great novelty!”.
The innovation at “Whip!” does not end here, Tonia has also decided to launch its “Unicorn Milkshake”, a cold frappuccino prepared with a base of milk and powder blue ice cream and decorated with marshmallows.
