NIn the Whirlpool dispute, “we are convinced and we all have to support that Naples should not be closed, Naples must continue to live, because if Naples were to close it would mean starting a process of closure that would affect all the Whirlpool plants in Italy”. This was reiterated by Rocco Palombella, general secretary of Uilm, today in Florence for the national metalworkers' strike. “We have to stop this degradation in its tracks”, added Palombella, admitting that “Whirlpool is the dispute that worries us the most: in 2014 we made a major reorganization plan, we decided that there was the possibility of continuing to produce household appliances in Italy, we sacrificed the two sites in Teverola and Carinaro precisely to let Naples and all the other sites in Italy live. Unfortunately, after four years we find ourselves back at square one”.
