YouTube is under investigation in the US. The Federal Trade Commission is targeting videos aimed at minors, both in terms of content and certain commercial practices. According to sources familiar with the matter cited by US media, the US regulator's action risks resulting in a massive fine for the social media platform, which operates under Google's control. Therefore, YouTube executives are reportedly working to implement radical changes to the way these videos are handled to prevent further harm. The Federal Trade Commission's investigation was launched after numerous complaints were filed by consumer groups and privacy advocates. These complaints accuse YouTube executives of failing to adequately protect minors who access the video streaming service, including improperly collecting their personal data. Among the changes to the platform under consideration, Bloomberg and the Wall Street Journal report, the most likely appears to be a change to the algorithms to minimize abuse. More challenging, however, is another plan that is still being considered: moving all content aimed at children and minors to YouTube Kids, an autonomous and more secure application. This is a delicate operation that, according to experts, poses significant risks for the social media platform, given that children's videos are among the most popular and account for a large portion of advertising revenue. According to American media, the investigation is currently in its final stages. "We are evaluating several ideas to improve YouTube. Some will remain as they are, while others are being developed," commented YouTube spokesperson Andrea Faville.
