Arzano – Cemetery expansion and crematorium: meeting with Prefect Carmela Pagano. Following the acquisition of 1500 burial niches by the consortium following the remediation effort initiated by Leo, chosen and directly supported by the former Extraordinary Commission to restore legality and transparency to a site that until a few years ago was a symbol of decay, it seems increasingly urgent to put the cemetery expansion and the construction of a crematorium on the table. It would be a godsend to see the expansion of the cemetery, which is still struggling with the lack of graves and burial niches, at least in the planning phase. Three municipalities encompassed by a single cemetery is indeed too many, and in the long and medium term, problems could arise. While awaiting the municipalities' nominations to the consortium and the ongoing activities within the Holy Place to consistently provide top-notch services, citizens visit the cemetery and gain a sense of the situation. The expansion of the consortium cemetery involves the creation of hundreds of burial niches and additional graves, which would be added to the existing ones. For years, previous administrations had attempted to expand the area designated as a cemetery but had always encountered bureaucratic obstacles. Currently, however, there is the possibility of using the left side of the cemetery and expanding towards the territory belonging to Arzano. Meanwhile, the cemetery's restyling continues, with the installation of elevators for the disabled, checks on funeral homes, and an upgrade of the video surveillance system to prevent thefts of sacred furnishings.
