Joao Felix is a new Atlético Madrid player. The club announced this evening the most expensive signing in the club's history: a €120 million release clause paid to Benfica, €6 million in installment financing, and €1,2 million paid to Porto as a solidarity mechanism, given that the young Portuguese star played for the "Dragoes" from the ages of 12 to 16. The 19-year-old has signed a seven-year contract, and his announcement was accompanied by a video of him at the Prado Museum. This is Atlético's fifth signing of the season, following Marcos Llorente, Renan Lodi, Felipe Monteiro, and Hector Herrera. Joao Felix becomes the fourth-highest-paid player ever after Neymar, Kylian Mbappé, and Philippe Coutinho. The Spanish club beat off competition from Europe's top clubs, primarily Manchester City and Juventus, who had made moves for the player. Joao Felix will succeed Antoine Griezmann, who is close to joining Barcelona. The Portuguese star has scored 20 goals and 11 assists in 43 appearances for Benfica this season.
