Ten arrests (eight in prison and two under house arrest) is the result of the operation carried out this morning between Capua and other municipalities in the province of Caserta by the Carabinieri of the Caserta Investigative Unit, who executed the custody orders issued by the investigating judge of the Court of Naples at the request of the DDA for the suspects considered responsible in various capacities for criminal association aimed at drug trafficking, with the aggravating circumstance of the mafia method.
The investigation by the Investigative Unit began in 2015 and ended in July 2016, allowing us to consider Teresa Vitolo, wife of Carlo Del Vecchio (currently detained under the 41bis regime), as well as sister of Massimo Vitolo (a leading member of the Casalesi clan) and the cousin of the well-known Casalesi affiliate Maurizio Fusco, Stefano Fusco, as the two who worked to promote the criminal association aimed at drug trafficking. Their business could count on relatives with leading members of the clan and on the cover of members who are still at liberty, such as Gaetano Diana, son of Elio, a member of the Casalesi, and nephew on his mother's side of Francesco Schiavone 'Cicciariello'.
The business had grown exponentially, so much so that it reached a state of monopoly especially in the municipalities north of Caserta (Bellona, Vitulazio, Camigliano), managing to take over the management of the drug dealing areas from groups already operating in the area. An example is the episode in which Teresa Vitolo confronted Cristina Gravante, a 48-year-old with a criminal record for specific drug-related crimes, at her home. Although supported by the Iovine faction of the Casalesi clan, she had to surrender to the overwhelming Camorra strength of her rival.
The investigations also revealed that the criminal group could take advantage of the availability of weapons and contacts with foreign criminal groups, especially Albanians, with whom they negotiated the purchase of drugs. In this regard, among the recipients of the provision there is an Albanian citizen already arrested by the Unit operating for voluntary homicide, committed in Greece and extradited in 2016 to that country.
