The Carabinieri of the Letino Forestry Corps, during an ordinary territorial control service aimed at combating crimes related to illegal waste disposal, in the “Vallelunga” hamlet of the municipality of Gallo Matese, found and placed under preventive seizure a large pile of non-hazardous special waste, abandoned on a dirt lot, with a volume of approximately 450 cubic meters, resulting from excavation activities, with breaking of the road surface, for the laying of the methane pipeline, with connection to the utilities, characterized mainly by the presence of earth, rocks, asphalt slabs and plastic waste mixed together, and transported by the company that is carrying out the methane gas conversion works.
The area of interest was, moreover, subject to landscape constraints because it falls within the Territorial Landscape Plan – Matese Massif Area, approved by Ministerial Decree of 04 September 2000 of the Ministry for Cultural Activities. The aforementioned pile of waste was found to constitute an illegal management of non-hazardous special waste as it does not fall within the category of temporary storage, as regulated given that there is a ban on creating the same in an area other than the place of production.
The owner of the company carrying out the works was therefore reported at liberty for the crimes of illegal waste management and for having carried out the work in question, without the required authorisation, on a property subject to landscape restrictions.
