"The phenomenon of bullying and cyberbullying is unfortunately still snubbed by the major national media that seem not to notice the serious emergency underway in our country on these issues. For this reason we have decided to intervene in a widespread way to raise awareness among young people about the culture of prevention and reporting. In Calvizzano we met many kids from the 'Villaggio di Dio' school camp to whom we transmitted the message that differences are a value and must be respected. An extraordinary meeting from which we all emerge even more aware that this is the right path to take". These are the words of the president of Corecom Campania, Domenico Falco, on the sidelines of the first summer meeting of the @scuolasenzabulli campaign that was held at the "Villaggio di Dio" summer camp in Calvizzano.
Don Ciro Tufo, promoter of the initiative, illustrated the activities involving the very young students: “We reinvent human creativity starting from moral and ethical values. Institutions exist and kids need to know that they exist. To explain the phenomenon of bullying we treated the figure of Primo Levi who spoke of victims and executioners. And that is what kids today experience. They are often victims and become executioners of other kids. They need to learn to discern between good and evil and act accordingly”.
On the same wavelength is Don Daniele Piccolo, assistant parish priest and co-organizer of the campus: “Here we do not perform miracles, but we try to educate the kids to make harmless gestures. To give themselves to each other and learn to grow with others. The phenomena of violence are repeated over time and are developing today through digital. We educate them to relate to meeting others, respecting them and enriching each other”.
For Domenico Condurro, regional president of the National Association of Sociologists, "today, kids are more aware and there are educational and regulatory tools to protect them and follow them in the process of reporting cases of bullying of which they are victims or witnesses. We need to accompany them on this path by making them feel the closeness of the institutions".
“Even the bully is a victim – from Sonia D'Antonio, sociologist of the cooperative “Rifless” – and suffers his being such and feels strong only in the group, when he is supported by someone. Otherwise he feels profound discomfort. Very often he comes from excellent families but boredom, the desire to go beyond, leads him to these behaviors. We must also see the phenomenon from the perspective of the bullies if we want to act effectively to prevent them. The regional law, in this sense, is very proactive. Its objective is not exquisitely punitive but rather to help the victims. All the victims, including bullies”.
