An 18-karat gold watch, designed by Baume & Mercier, mistakenly thrown in the garbage by a woman in Pozzuoli and found by workers at “Ricicla”, the company that sorts and recovers multi-material waste collected in the Pozzuoli area. “I went to the beach and put the watch in a beach bag,” explains Giovanna Marra, owner of the precious jewel. “When I got home I noticed that the bag had gotten stained and, forgetting that it contained the watch, I folded it and put it in the recycling bin.” “The next day,” she continues, “I remembered that the watch was in the bag and ran to the waste recovery company. There I found wonderful people, with an honesty and unique dedication. They assured me that they would do everything possible to find it if the vehicle reached them. And so it was. When they called me to give me the good news, they were happier than I was. I wanted to reward them with money but they didn't want to. So I brought croissants and perfumes from my perfumery to all of them. A way to say thank you."
“The work in our plant is very fast,” explains Dr. Trincone, owner of “Ricicla,” “the workers had to slow it down to allow the watch to be recovered. If they hadn’t started the search, the jewel would probably have ended up in the glass. Our plant does a great job, recovering and selecting the material. Our company, by valorizing waste, can also be defined as a producer of material.” The story of the watch was told in Friday’s episode of “La Radiazza” by the deputy mayor of Pozzuoli Fiorella Zabatta: “The eight workers demonstrated great honesty. They opened thousands of envelopes under the scorching sun to recover the jewel. They did it without asking for any kind of compensation.” “Stories like this,” consider the host of “La Radiazza” Gianni Simioli and the regional councilor of the Greens Francesco Emilio Borrelli, “show that the population of our territories is mostly made up of honest workers. The great work of the recycling workers is representative of all those people who, every day, do their duty with great commitment and self-denial".
