Naples. He apologizes to the family of the tobacconist killed by the murderous hands and reckless gesture of one of his fellow countrymen. He does so with simple words, in almost perfect Italian. He is mister Mike Omeliko, president of the Nigerian community of Campania. “I, Omeliko Mike, on behalf of the Nigerian community in Mugnano di Napoli, in the municipality of Naples, in Campania and throughout Italy, apologize to the family of Ulderico Esposito, including the deceased Ulderico. Ulderico Esposito. A very cordial newsagent at the Chiaiano station in Naples lost his life at the hands of a 32-year-old presumed Nigerian in a fight,” begins the letter addressed to Ulderico’s family. And then continues: “Today I would like to join the family in sharing their grief for the loss of Ulderico Esposito: a husband, a father, a social friend. Certainly the mourning of the family is a mourning for all of us. Mr. Ulderico Esposito, during my student life, also served me subway tickets and sometimes computer magazines, when he passed by to buy them for me. His smile always plastered on his face has remained with me”. And again the condemnation of every type of violence: “I and my fellow countrymen are united with the family to condemn every form of violence that is decimating our social and civil society. Violence has no color or nation and we will always denounce without conditions every form of violence. Whoever promotes or carries it out will be prosecuted without any support from the public. Aware of the pain of the family and of not having the right words to comfort them, I pray to our Lord to give the family the big heart to support the loss of Ulderico Esposito. Best regards, Mr. Omeliko Mike”.
