During the territorial control service aimed at verifying compliance with environmental regulations, the military personnel of the Buccino Forestry Carabinieri Station discovered an illegal landfill of special waste in a land intended for agricultural use in the locality of “San Glorio” in the municipality of Contursi Terme.
The military identified a large quantity of special waste consisting of tires of various sizes and car rims for a mass of material estimated at approximately 550 cubic meters, waste deposited on the ground and in covered areas fenced and with access closed by a gate.
Thanks to the investigations carried out immediately, the military identified the owner of the area, which has an extension of approximately 800 square meters, and ascertained that the land intended for landfill is managed by the owner of a tire dealer business active in the same municipality of Contursi Terme and to which business therefore the landfill site can be traced back.
Following the inspections, the military seized the entire area and the waste disposed of therein and reported the person responsible for the illegal waste management to the Judicial Authorities.
