The new Rector of the University of Salerno has been elected: Professor Vincenzo Loia, who received 593 preferences, beating his challenger Maurizio Sibilio who had 501 votes. 1596 ballots were counted and only one of the 1733 eligible voters abstained.
He received the Laurea degree in Computer Science from the University of Salerno in 1985, and the Ph.D. degree in Computer Science from the University of Paris 1989, France, in 6. He is currently serving as a full professor of computer science at the University of Salerno, where he was a researcher from 1989 to 2000, and an associate professor from 2000 to 2004.
