Enrico Pieranunzi, a jazz legend at Castello d Baia, on July 5, 2019 (21,00:2019 p.m.). Musical excellence, archaeology and landscape meet in the most beautiful sites of the Campi Flegrei Archaeological Park, with the Pozzuoli Faber Jazz Festival XNUMX, XNUMXth Edition.
Pieranunzi will perform with his trio (Giuseppe Romagnoli on double bass and Cesare Mangiocavallo on drums), accompanying the beautiful “flegrean” voice of Valentina Ranalli in “Valentina sings Pieranunzi”.
Pieranunzi is the only Italian musician ever and one of the very few Europeans to have played and recorded several times in the historic “Village Vanguard” in New York with Marc Johnson and Paul Motian (Camjazz, 2010).
It was for “Live at The Village Vanguard” with Marc Johnson and Paul Motian (Camjazz, 2010) that he was awarded the 2014 Echo Jazz Award – the German equivalent of the American Grammy – as Best International Piano Player.
The prestigious American magazine “Down Beat” included his CD “Live in Paris”, in trio with Hein Van de Geyn and André Ceccarelli (Challenge), among the best CDs of the 2000/2010 decade.
He composed several hundred pieces, some of which are now true standards played and recorded by musicians all over the world (“Night bird”, “Don't forget the poet”, “Fellini's waltz”) and included in the American Standard Book.
The Pozzuoli Faber Jazz Festival, the Festival Dei Campi Flegrei that unites music, archaeology and Phlegraean culture, opens the series of concerts in the sites of the Archaeological Park of the Campi Flegrei with the appointment of July 5th. This will be followed by the jazz quartet Uneven Quartet by Stefania Tallini at the Terme Di Baia on July 10th, the trombonist Filippo Vignati and his quartet at the Anfiteatro Flavio on July 22nd and the pianist Giovanni Guidi at the Acropoli Di Cuma/ Antro Della Sibilla on July 23rd.
Exceptional settings for the numerous musical events, with many important artists and young talents, will also be the breathtaking panorama of Torrefumo in Monte di Procida, the green nature of the Fondi di Baia Natural Park, Lake Lucrino and Lake Averno, as well as some enchanting private structures: Villa Edlweiss on Lake Fusaro, the Calamoresca overlooking the Gulf of Miseno, the Temple of Neptune or more properly the Hadrianic Baths in Pozzuoli, Terrazza Ventidue adjacent to the Antonino Pio Stadium, Villa Matarese in Monte di Procida, the Cerillo Park, an oasis of environment & culture and Maison Toledo, the LaNovecento bookshop with book events and a jazz workshop for children, La Dimora Marigold with a special event dedicated to seniors, the Madigan's Irish pub, the vineyards of Cantine Averno, Gruccione and Quarto (IV Miglio).
This year's Festival, organized by APS Jazz and Conversation, confirms the extraordinary collaboration already started last year, with the Parco Archeologico dei Campi Flegrei, partner of the event, which in addition to making the archaeological sites available to host the concerts, also supports their activities, demonstrating an innovative spirit of management of cultural heritage, of great openness and closeness to citizens.
The event also supports the work of the CASAMORE Foundation, a non-profit solidarity foundation that works with children and young adults affected by genetic and neurodevelopmental diseases. During the events, the Foundation will be present with its information point and fundraiser.
As always, at the end of the concerts, each artist will be given the “Peace Bomb” by Maestro Raffaele Ariante – an artist from Pozzuoli who works in Assisi – as a symbol of the unity and sharing that music always manages to create.
Upcoming events at the sites of the Archaeological Park of the Phlegraean Fields:
On July 10, the Antiche Terme di Baia will be the exceptional setting for the stellar quartet Uneven Quartet by Stefania Tallini with Greg Hutchinson on drums, Gabriele Mirabassi on clarinet and Matteo Bortone on double bass.
Stefania Tallini is one of the most appreciated Italian jazz pianists, composers and arrangers, whose original language makes her one of the most interesting and established figures in the international music scene today. The UNEVEN quartet hosts two famous international musicians: the drummer Greg Hutchinson, considered one of the greatest drummers in the world and the extraordinary clarinetist Gabriele Mirabassi, with whom Stefania Tallini has already recorded two albums, one of which is the highly acclaimed Maresìa (Alfa Music, 2008). A new project, this, based on the pianist's highly original music, with many unreleased songs created for this quartet - UNEVEN - which will soon be in the recording studio, for a new album.
On July 22nd at the Flavian Amphitheater in Pozzuoli, a symbolic place of Puteoli Biblical City, the quartet of trombonist Filippo Vignato will be on stage. Alongside him are Giovanni Guidi on piano, Luca Fattorini on double bass and Emanuele Maniscalco on drums. Vignato, trombonist, composer and arranger born in Thiene (VI) in 1987, began studying the trombone at just 10 years old. He carries out an intense concert activity in Italy and throughout Europe as a "sideman" and as leader of his own artistic projects. Today he is considered one of the most interesting Italian musicians of his generation.
Vignato will also be the protagonist on July 21st of a Workshop, open to musicians and non-musicians, at Palazzo Migliaresi in Rione Terra.
On July 23rd, special conversation with the Sibyl with pianist Giovanni Guidi at the Acropolis of Cuma in front of the Sibyl's Cave.
Giovanni Guidi, a wonderful and accomplished musician, has won various awards including the Top Jazz referendum organized by the magazine Musica Jazz, as best new talent 2007.
He presents himself, in a solo piano, with his new work, dedicated to the great Léo Ferré and entitled Avec Le Temps – one of the most touching songs in the repertoire of the great French singer-songwriter – who will surely be fascinated and particularly inspired by the symbolic place of the Campi Flegrei, that of the Antro Virgiliano, of the Cumaean Sibyl. Giovanni Guidi, therefore, with his music that “aims straight to the heart and hits the mark”.

Since last year, the event has been supported in particular by the sponsor Faber Italia srl, a Campania company that produces coffee machines, leader in the sector for mechanics and design, attentive to cultural ferments and the events that characterize them.
In addition to the collaboration of the Archaeological Park of Campi Flegrei, it enjoys the moral patronage of the Municipality of Pozzuoli, the Municipality of Monte di Procida and the Municipality of the City of Assisi, Pozzuoli, the contribution of the Order of Chartered Accountants and Accounting Experts of Naples and has among its partners the National Association I – Jazz.
