Genoa. Nearly a year after the tragedy of August 14, 2018, the Guardia di Finanza (Financial Police) has released to the media the video capturing the exact moment of the Morandi Bridge collapse. This footage was recorded by the surveillance cameras of Ferrometal, one of the companies located near the viaduct. Until now, it had been kept classified because it was under investigation by the prosecutor's office, which considers it key evidence to understand the collapse's dynamics. Furthermore, investigators feared it could influence eyewitnesses' reconstruction of events. The video shows the moments before the structure collapsed, the passage of cars, a heavy vehicle, and Pier 9, with its tie rods and decking, collapsing, swallowing dozens of vehicles, all in a matter of seconds. Now, the investigating judge has given all parties, both the prosecution and the defense, permission to view the footage. These images will be used to answer questions about the collapse related to the second evidentiary hearing. Meanwhile, experts from the various parties will be inspecting the debris from the eastern end of the viaduct at Campasso today. After the inspection, demolition workers will be able to move forward to determine how to clear all the debris.
