Vico Equense. A large bomb destroyed all the windows at the entrance to the Hotel Astoria on Corso Filangieri in Vico Equense shortly after midnight. The recently renovated hotel is located just meters from the Circumvesuviana train station. The explosion caused panic among hotel guests, who rushed into the street, and residents of adjacent buildings. Carabinieri from the local station arrived on the scene to begin an investigation. They examined the hotel's security cameras to find evidence useful for their investigation. The owner, who also runs the "Antico Bagno" beach club on Vico Equense, was interviewed after preliminary inquiries and told the officers that he had never received any threats or extortion requests. The officers are targeting a criminal group from nearby Castellammare. It's possible the investigation is related to the management of the Vico beach clubs, rather than a request for protection money for the hotel. The owner has categorically ruled out such a possibility.
