The Provincial Command of the Guardia di Finanza of Naples, as part of the intensification of the action to combat the illegal and underground economy in the summer period, especially with the increase in tourist flows arriving on the islands of the gulf, has arranged specific surveillance and control services. In particular, the military of the Ischia Lieutenancy, after having carried out an appropriate information and reconnaissance activity in the points of greatest tourist interest on the island (Castello Aragonese, museum area of Lacco Ameno, village of Sant'Angelo) as well as in the assembly points at the docks of the ports, have carried out checks in the specific sector of guides and/or tourist escorts, aimed, on the one hand, at verifying the requirements for practicing the profession, on the other, at protecting undeclared work, aimed at verifying the relationships with the agencies of the sector.
During the various checks, 5 people were identified, 4 Italians and 1 German, without the qualification to act as a tourist guide and/or escort, while they were providing significant elements and information of tourist interest about the island to groups of tourists of Italian, German and English nationality. Furthermore, data of fiscal interest were also collected, identifying the compensation received in order to be able to reconstruct the earnings of the illegal workers who, without the intervention of the financial police, would certainly have been subtracted from the tax authorities. Suffice it to say that each group corresponded to the guide/escort, for an itinerary lasting about an hour, the total amount of 100 euros.
At the end of the service, the illegal operators were reported to the Public Prosecutor's Office of Naples for illegally exercising a profession and, since they did not have the qualifications required by art. 4 of Regional Law no. 11/1986, they were charged with administrative violations that provide for pecuniary sanctions. The activity carried out by the Fiamme Gialle, in addition to the repressive aspect, represents an effective deterrent to the spread of the phenomenon that causes damage not only to qualified individuals who correctly perform the profession of guide/escort, but also to the protection of public safety, the economy of the territory, the historical, artistic and cultural image of the locations involved.
