Over three hundred workers from the multinational telecommunications company Jabil marched through the streets of Marcianise on Monday afternoon. The demonstration was organized in response to the company's management's decision to lay off 350 employees, a severe blow to the local economy.
The procession, which started from the old Siemens factory, a German multinational from which Jabil acquired the business branch, ended at the Town Hall, where a City Council was held, convened specifically by Mayor Antonello Velardi.
At the end of the work, the Council approved a document to be delivered to the Region and the Ministry of Economic Development and developed in seven points. Unions, councilors and Jabil employees obviously ask to "revoke the collective dismissal procedure, asking the American multinational to prepare an alternative plan that allows the guarantee of employment levels". In the other points, "the Mise is expected, as provided for in the agreements signed, to monitor and supervise the exact fulfillment of the obligations assumed with the signing of the same; to guarantee the establishment of a ministerial table in a permanent and qualified manner, also urging the Campania Region to produce this result; to guarantee the participation in the permanent ministerial table of workers' representatives, avoiding the repetition of the unpleasant incident that occurred in the last meeting, when access to the Mise of the same workers was denied; to demand an industrial policy, by the Government and the Campania Region, that supports Jabil and the electronics sector, which have been left to their own devices for too many years after having represented a point of excellence for the country in industry and advanced technological sectors; to commit the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Cooperation to implement all the necessary measures to formalize a vibrant protest against the American government and the Jabil company and to ask the latter - as the controlling company - to immediately interrupt the dismissal procedure; to commit the technical table to identify adequate tools to activate advantageous taxation for the productive activities of the territory".
