Conversations in Capri: Andrew Sean Greer, Leslie Jamison, Howard Jacobson, starting Friday, July 5

After the meetings of the first weekend (June 28, 29 and 30), the sunset meetings (at 7:19.00 pm) continue in Capri until Sunday XNUMX July in the splendid setting of Piazzetta Tragara, with great international literature at the Le Conversazioni Festival created by Antonio Monda and Davide Azzolini.
On Friday 5 July, the second weekend of meetings on the theme of “prejudice” will be opened by the American writer Andrew Sean Greer, winner of the Pulitzer Prize for fiction in 2018 with Less (La nave di Teseo, 2017). Greer is the author of The Confessions of Max Tivoli (Adelphi, 2004), chosen as the best book of 2004 by the San Francisco Chronicle and the Chicago Tribune and winner of the California Book Award. He has written The Story of a Marriage (Adelphi, 2008) and The Impossible Lives of Greta Wells (Bompiani, 2013). The Path of the Minor Planets has just been published in Italy by La nave di Teseo.
The protagonist of Saturday 6 July will be the American writer Leslie Jamison, author of the novel The Gin Closet (2010), finalist for the Los Angeles Times Book Prize and of the collection of essays The Empathy Exams (2014), a New York Times bestseller. In Italy she has published Rinascere, alcol, intossicazione e storie di curare (Mondadori, 2019). In September 2019 her new collection of essays Make It Scream, Make It Burn will be published.
Closing the Italian edition of the festival on Sunday 7 July will be Howard Jacobson, a British writer, journalist and television host, a leading figure in the daily newspaper The Independent, who is one of the few authors to have won the Man Booker Prize in 2010 with a comic novel, The Riddle of Finkler (La nave di Teseo, 2019). In 2007 he won the JQ Wingate Prize with Kalooki Nights, (Cargo, 2008). He has twice won the Bollinger Everyman Wodehouse Prize with The Unbeatable Waltz (Cargo, 2009) and Take My Mother-in-Law (Bompiani, 2014).
Her other titles published in Italy are Un amore perfetto (Cargo, 2010), G (Bompiani, 2016), again a finalist for the Man Booker Prize, and Pussy (La nave di Teseo, 2017). Her latest book Live a Little will be released in July 2019.
Guests will take turns in conversations with Antonio Monda and in readings on “Prejudice”, the common thread of this fourteenth edition.
Opening the first weekend (June 28 – June 30) are Marisa Silver, American director and writer, Ta-Nehisi Coates, American writer and journalist and Amitav Ghosh, Indian writer and anthropologist.
As usual, on the occasion of the Capri events, the anthology of unpublished texts by writers on this year's theme will be published and distributed to the public, and will be read by the authors themselves at the opening of each event.
The festival inaugurated the meetings in Italy in June in Rome at Palazzo Merulana with Annalena Benini, Susanna Tamaro, Piera Degli Esposti and Francesco Vezzoli, and debuted in Naples, at the Madre Museum, with the great writer Salman Rushdie.
The 2019 edition of The Conversations will close with the last two appointments in New York in December with Margo Jefferson at the New York Historical Society (December 2) and with Nicole Krauss & Laurie Anderson at the Morgan Library & Museum (December 5).
Many names of international cultural protagonists have taken part in past editions of Le Conversazioni, which inaugurated in 2006 with Jonathan Franzen, Zadie Smith, Jeffrey Eugenides, Nathan Englander and David Foster Wallace. Guests in subsequent years include: Martin Amis, Ethan, Coen, Michael Cunningham, Ian McEwan, Chuck Palahniuk, Paul Auster, Patrick McGrath, EL Doctorow, Jonathan Safran Foer, Joshua Ferris, David Byrne, Colum McCann, Michael Chabon, Elizabeth Strout, Donna Tartt, Hanif Kureishi, Nicole Krauss, Anna Funder, Junot Diaz, Rachel Kushner, Don DeLillo, Gary Shteyngart, Erica Jong, Wole Soyinka, Jamaica Kincaid, Marlon James, Fran Lebowitz, Vendela Vida, Dave Eggers, Helen Oyeyemi, Ian Buruma, David Mamet and Benjamin Taylor. Among the Italian guests: Claudio Magris, Alessandro Piperno, Paolo Sorrentino, Alessandro Baricco, Dante Ferretti and Francesca LoSchiavo, Liliana Cavani, Paola Cortellesi, Francesco Piccolo, Nicola Piovani, Toni Servillo and many others.
