Naples. The Universiade hasn't even officially begun, and scams and deceptions have already begun targeting athletes and tourists participating in the event. Yesterday afternoon, one of the volunteers assigned to monitor and escort athletes through the port of Naples was savagely beaten by other young men doing the same job. He's a young man from Scafati who arrived bleeding and in tears at the emergency room of the Loreto Mare hospital. After being treated, he told a story that might seem far-fetched, but is unfortunately true, casting the first shadow over the organization of the event. The young man was beaten because he had photographed and scolded some of his colleagues who were "renting" scooters to tourists for a fee. The scooters were parked in the Olympic village at the port and were used to transport Universiade athletes. The young man was approached by the group who had noticed him taking pictures, and when the group asked, "What are you doing?" he was met with kicks, slaps, and the threat, "You have to hurt your... s... s... ." The boy filed a complaint and the police are now investigating the matter.
