Naples. Determined not to serve his sentence under house arrest, he showed up at the port of Civitavecchia attempting to board a ship with false documents. The plans of a 62-year-old man from Campania were thwarted yesterday afternoon by officers from the police station led by Paolo Guiso, who arrested him for evasion and possession of false documents. The investigation began following a tip from the Operations Room of the Rome Police Headquarters about a man who had escaped from house arrest in Naples, where he was supposed to be serving a 10-month sentence for counterfeiting and fraud. Suspecting that the man was in the city intending to board a ship and leave Italy to avoid detention, the officers rushed to the port, recognizing him and stopping him as he was about to board a motor vessel bound for Barcelona. When he was stopped, the 62-year-old, in a last-ditch effort to avoid arrest, showed them an identity card, which was later found to be a fake and immediately confiscated.
