Naples. Thousands of e-cigarette bottles seized. Thousands of bottles of e-liquids made with potentially harmful nicotine mixes, not declared on the pre-packaged bottles, were seized in a laboratory in Naples by the Guardia di Finanza. The liquids were produced in the factory discovered by the police in an isolated building on the Astroni hill by workers and staff with no qualifications or employment contracts. In addition to the e-cigarette products, which investigators believe are intended to supply the European market, the Guardia di Finanza discovered over 100 kg of foreign tobacco used to package the liquids in a hidden location. For the production of the dangerous DIY mixes, the amateur chemists had access to not only pure nicotine, but also 700 liters of nicotine-containing e-liquids in completely unlabeled canisters, distinguishable only by a handwritten number in marker, and 17.000 bottles ready to be released onto the black market. When officers arrived on site, the owners of the secret laboratory, one of whom had been reported to the judicial authorities, declared that they had submitted a formal application for production licenses. This, investigators confirmed, had indeed occurred just minutes after the Guardia di Finanza raid. The retail value of the seized material is approximately €650,000. Approximately €200,000 was stolen from the Treasury in excise and consumption taxes.
