The Dance section of the twelfth edition of the Napoli Teatro Festival Italia closes with two international artists, who make their national debut in Naples: tomorrow, Tuesday 2 July, in the Church of Donnaregina Vecchia, at 21.00:3 pm, Hadra will be performed, a show by the French choreographer Alexandre Roccoli, son of miners of Italian origin, programmed in collaboration with Francia in Scena, the artistic season of the Institut français Italia, created on the initiative of the French Embassy in Italy, with the support of the Institut français and the Fondazione Nuovi Mecenati (repeated on Wednesday 21.00 July at XNUMX:XNUMX pm).
Initially conceived in 2017 at the Musée de l'Histoire de l'Immigration for Moroccan dancer Yassine Aboulakoul – later joined by his brother Youness – the work draws inspiration from the dances practiced by the Gnawa brotherhoods in Morocco, but also from contemporary urban culture, ranging from hip hop to house music.
From the British contemporary dance scene comes the Scottish artist Julie Cunningham, who debuts in Italy with the choreography M/Y, a show programmed in collaboration with the British Council, on stage at 20.00pm, Wednesday 3 July, at the Teatro Trianon-Viviani. The show, designed for six dancers, investigates the identity of the body and its emotional state and aims to give creative voice to the dialogue with the LGBTQ+ community. M/Y is in fact part of a larger work on the lesbian body: it evokes female physicality to attract a female gaze.
And the body is always at the center of the works of the French juggler, artist and director – founder of the Non Nova company – Phia Menard, who on Wednesday 3 July at the Teatro Politeama (21.30:14 pm), as part of the International section, presents for the first time in Italy her new performance commissioned by Documenta 1 in Kassel, Contes Immoraux Part XNUMX: Maison mère. Inspired by the house of Athena, the Parthenon, which protected the city's treasure, Menard imagines a house of protection for Europe and builds a life-size Marshall village, made of cardboard. This show is also programmed in collaboration with Francia in Scena.
The Napoli Teatro Festival Italia, directed for the third year by Ruggero Cappuccio, organized by the Fondazione Campania dei Festival, has welcomed into its program 12 shows (including 9 national premieres) for the Dance section and 2 works from the Workshops section dedicated to the international contemporary dance scene.
From England to Scotland, from France to Brazil, and from Argentina, Syria, Lebanon, Greece and Italy: artists from all over the world had the opportunity to present their new creations in Naples.
