The huge hiring plan of the Japanese giant NTT Data, a world-leading company in the field of cybersecurity and artificial intelligence, which announced as many as 1000 new units to be included in its Italian offices, of which 500 are in the south, between Naples and Cosenza. But what opportunities will this ambitious program really open up?

The South is often associated with less than reassuring news regarding work: from the now historic case of the Ilva in Taranto to the recent news from the Whirlpool plant in Naples, which risks laying off 450 workers, southern Italy has been experiencing a deep crisis for some time, causing many new graduates to flee to the northern regions, if not to other European and non-European countries. In an apparently bleak picture, sometimes emerge examples of great enterprise, strong growth and the ability to look beyond, entrepreneurial and professional initiatives that, regardless of what is in some ways a disheartening situation, manage to create happy islands capable of bringing fresh air to areas traditionally considered to be in difficulty.

This is the case of NTT Data, a multinational with Headquarters in Tokyo specialized in the field of system integration, professional services and strategic consulting. Having entered the Italian market in 2011 with the acquisition of Value Team for a whopping 250 million euros, the Japanese company now has eight offices in our country, including the registered office in Milan and offices in Rome, Pisa, Turin, Treviso, Genoa, Naples and Cosenza. It is precisely on these last two cities that the Japanese group has focused and continues to focus strongly to consolidate its presence in Italy, so much so that it has chosen the Calabrian city for the opening of one of its three research and development centers, alongside those in Tokyo and Palo Alto.

The Italian experience of NTT Data seems to follow a path completely opposite to that of other large groups, which choose to abandon our country to relocate their activities in low-cost areas. Here we are talking, in fact, of strong investments in highly specialized personnel, young graduates and diploma holders able to bring with them a unique wealth of knowledge and ideas. The sector is one of those truly fascinating: artificial intelligence, which until a few decades ago seemed like science fiction, is now a solid reality. No longer simple technologies to teach computers simple and linear operations, but a much broader concept that opens up to the creation of machines equipped with problem-solving capabilities increasingly similar to those of humans, such as demonstrated by numerous experiments conducted in the gaming industry, chess and poker above all, in business and in the medical field.

Here then is the idea of a South capable of rising again by abandoning the traditional sectors of mechanics, steel, industry in general, focusing instead on human capital rather than on that strictly linked to machines. On the one hand, production lines that are moving towards Eastern Europe and other economically more attractive areas, on the other, investments in human resources, understood as people with a unique and unrepeatable cultural, professional and human background.

The history of what is now the NTT Data headquarters in Naples, active since 2002 and therefore well before the acquisition, teaches us how with commitment, talent and the ability to look beyond the classic schemes it is possible to break out of stereotypes: over 200 people are currently employed in the Neapolitan offices and laboratories and the forecast of numerous other placements in positions that could concern Front-End Developer, Software Developer, Security Analyst and not only that, the numbers tell the story of the success of a hub that sees physicists, mathematicians, computer scientists and many other professional figures live a work experience with an international scope, in a city that knows how to give so much to those who live it with the right spirit.

To apply for open positions and to send spontaneous applications to the NTT Data group, simply follow the dedicated portal dedicated to search for staff: here you can find all the information regarding the figures sought and stay in touch with the company for any selections.
