A memo from the Salerno Prefecture has reportedly arrived to the municipality via certified email. No media outlets have seen it, but there is a specific rumor circulating regarding its content. Prefect Russo of Salerno reportedly urged both the administration and the opposition to tone things down. Toning things down, the next step reportedly contained in the memo, is because the relevant bodies have already identified a course of action, namely a formal warning to the city council not to ratify Gambino's appointment as mayor. Failure to comply—which occurred on Sunday evening—would result in the dissolution of the city council for repeated violations of the law pursuant to Article 141 of Legislative Decree 267/2000 and the appointment of a commissioner. There is a similar precedent a few years ago, geographically close, in the municipality of Somma Vesuviana with Mayor Di Siervo.
