Torre Annunziata. Stabia-based businessman Adolfo Greco remains in prison, despite his precarious health resulting from his time in Secondigliano prison since December. His lawyers have asked the panel of judges, chaired by Riccardo Sena, to gather all medical reports and evaluate them for a possible release request. A recent medical report conducted in prison has been submitted to the case file, certifying that his health has improved and therefore the inmate is compatible with the prison regime. Greco's defense also reiterated its desire to "conduct the trial" quickly to prove his innocence, but also because "he is a sick person undergoing a lengthy trial." The Olimpio trial hearing held today in the Siani courtroom of the Torre Annunziata Courthouse was again marked by skirmishes. "Greco is a victim of the clans, and has not been protected," the dairy entrepreneur's defense team based the entire trial on this position. However, not much has changed since the first hearing, held last week. The injured parties were absent from the ordinary trial, which sees defendants Adolfo Greco, Michele Carolei, Raffaele Carolei, Umberto Cuomo, Luigi Di Martino, and Attilio Di Somma. The SOS Impresa association, which had joined the civil action with the municipality of Castellammare di Stabia in the first hearing, was also absent. Its lawyer was present in court today.
During the trial, the wiretaps and the episodes reported in the documents of the case against Greco were discussed, which are said to lack evidence capable of contesting the nature of some crimes against the entrepreneur from Castellammare di Stabia. “According to the lawyers, the elements that would constitute a crime are missing. This is the thesis supported by the defense, lawyers Stavino and Maiello, who tell of an entrepreneur who was the victim of corruption. During the trial, some statements by the collaborator of justice Belviso were also read, which are said to be at the origin of the investigation. Collaborator Francesco Belviso reported to investigators on March 22, 2012 and told of the entrepreneur Greco forced to pay bribes to the D'Alessandro clan. “Adolfo Greco is a big businessman who manages trucks and takes care of supplies to supermarkets with milk and other food products, if I'm not mistaken Kinder, he had direct contact with Paoluccio Carolei. […]Paoluccio Carolei gave us a couple of tranches of five thousand euros each from Adolfo Greco. The two installments of five thousand euros each were delivered directly to me by Paoluccio Carolei. The money that Paoluccio Carolei received from Adolfo Greco was of a higher amount. In fact, the money given by Adolfo Greco was divided between D'Alessandro Vincenzo and Paoluccio Carolei and therefore what was given to us constituted only the part due to D'Alessandro. The deliveries of the tranches of money from Adolfo Greco took place at the end of April and the beginning of May 2009. Adolfo Greco had also paid at Christmas 2008”. About a year after these statements, investigators began to investigate Greco and his relationship with local clans. The defense, which speaks of a violation of the entrepreneur's rights, asked to know if all the necessary checks were carried out before proceeding with the authorization to proceed against Greco and if the GIP had a clear picture of the situation and all the useful elements to issue the custody order before proceeding. According to lawyer Stavino, “Greco was not protected as a citizen when he was being harassed by the three clans that apparently dominate the territory of Castellammare”. In light of this and the statements, the lawyer asked "to know on the basis of which hypotheses and arguments the crime of participation in a criminal organization was hypothesized". The entrepreneur's lawyers have argued, more than once, that Greco's figure is not that of an executioner but rather a victim, as described by the collaborator of justice, so much so as to lead to the constitution, through the lawyer Salvatore Pane, of a civil party in the trial. “The documents available to us speak of Greco as being periodically extorted by the D'Alessandro clan,” says lawyer Maiello. The prosecutor rejected all the objections raised by the defense because they were deemed "unfounded."
