The military personnel of the Agropoli Forestry Carabinieri Station, in carrying out the service of prevention and repression of environmental crimes, have ascertained several episodes of illegal burning of waste.
The circumstances of the interventions carried out were also varied. In a time span of a few days, in fact, the military intervened, even off duty and at night, in the localities of Collina San Marco and Mattine in the municipality of Agropoli and the locality of Cafasso in the municipality of Capaccio Paestum. A constant element of the episodes is the illegal disposal of waste by burning. The waste set on fire can all be classified as special waste and in some cases attributable to business activities, in fact it is materials from building renovations, plastic waste produced by agricultural processes, vegetable waste and fabrics.
Once the areas were secured, the military carried out surveys and checks on the places that allowed them to identify the ownership of the land and the nature of the burned waste and to attribute the production and subsequent combustion of the waste and therefore identify those responsible. Three people, including an Algerian citizen, were reported to the Judicial Authority.
In addition to being a conduct prohibited by law and punishable by law by Legislative Decree 152/2006, this is a practice that puts environmental matrices at risk, especially the air, but also the health of citizens, especially when plastic materials are burned, as in the case of agricultural waste. Furthermore, in a period of high risk and serious danger for forest fires, decreed by the Campania Regional Council and starting from June 15th and until September 30th.
