Italy is the second country in the world after California for the industrial tomato processing sector: 61 thousand hectares are cultivated for tomatoes and 4,6 million tons of processed product that generate a total of over 3 billion euros per year.
Half of the quantity produced is destined for foreign countries and the “passata” is confirmed year after year as the best-selling final product equal to 56% of the market, grown in volume by 1,8% compared to 2017.
Campania has always represented the largest production basin both in terms of the number of active companies (about 70 out of the 115 operating in Italy) located mainly in the provinces of Naples and Salerno and in terms of turnover (about 1,5 billion euros), establishing itself as the main producing region of peeled tomatoes, the true flagship of Made in Italy in the world.
However, in recent times the effects of climate change have particularly affected crops in Southern Italy and, with bad weather, frost and temperatures well below seasonal averages, winter production has been particularly affected. The scenario has not improved even in the spring period, characterized by excessively abundant and frequent rainfall such as that of May.
Not only adverse weather conditions but also the reduction in areas intended for cultivation have determined the negative closing of the tomato production sector for 2018 for a total of 4,65 million tons, down 11,5% compared to 2017, a trend that is also confirmed at European (-15%) and global (-10%) levels.
In a scenario of general difficulty and right in the heart of the area from which the greatest induced effects for tomato processing come, the sale of machinery for the canning industry from the factories of the company Raffaele Viscardi Srl located in Scafati, in the province of Salerno, takes place.
Troostwijk is now the main protagonist of corporate restructuring in the food sector, also in Southern Italy. After the large sales of machinery from the Lodato Bankruptcy (tomato preserves), the Concordato Preventivo GAM Gruppo Alimentare Molisano (white meat processing), Troostwijk will manage the auction of the former Raffaele Viscardi Srl assets.
From 12 to 25 July, 157 lots will be auctioned, the sale of which will be handled by the well-known international auction house Troostwijk.

The management of Raffaele Viscardi Srl's assets is part of the large portfolio of collective auctions called "Leasing Remarketing & More" resulting from leasing contracts and offers at regular intervals.
The next one, scheduled for July 24th, offers interesting packaging machines useful for different food productions.
