“Santa Maria a Castello is a heritage not only of Somma Vesuviana, but of the entire Vesuvian territory. Yet this municipal administration seems not to want to notice: the path that leads to Santa Maria a Castello is full of obstacles, doing it on foot is impossible, there are undergrowths everywhere and the road is in terrible conditions. This is not the way to enhance such an important area, which should represent a driving force for commercial and tourist development for our city. As far as I am concerned, the development of this area was and remains a priority”. Thus Celestino Allocca, former candidate for mayor of Somma Vesuviana and councilor of the council group “Somma Futura” raises the alarm on Santa Maria a Castello, a recreational area and point of reference for the free time of many citizens.

Allocca continues: “As the years go by, the commercial businesses in the area are closing, those that resist do so amidst a thousand difficulties. We are with them: we would like to know what redevelopment project there is for this area, where there is a bowling alley but there are no adequate conditions for the elderly, where young and old come up every evening but everything seems abandoned. Santa Maria a Castello is a treasure of inestimable value, but there is a need for real valorization”
