Ferry from Salerno to Catania stopped at sea: women and children adrift in the middle of the Mediterranean. There is also a heart patient who was supposed to be hospitalized in Sicily today.
The ferry “Egnazia”, of the Grimaldi company, with 250 people on board (in addition to women and small children, also a heart patient who must be hospitalized today in Sicily), departed last night from the port of Salerno and headed to Catania, has been stuck at sea for many hours. The report comes from several passengers on board who denounce the lack of information on the status of the trip.
It would appear that the ship is turned off and it is not possible to use the bathrooms. The ferry was supposed to leave yesterday at 22 pm, but it did not set sail until late at night. Then during the voyage there were some problems. "The engines have restarted and the ship is moving: they told us that we will arrive in Catania at 18 pm". The news comes from one of the passengers of the 'Egnazia', of the Grimaldi company, that the mechanical failure was resolved while it was off the Tyrrhenian coast of Calabria. The 250 passengers on board are breathing a sigh of relief, even if the anger has not yet been overcome. "No one warned us during the night - say other passengers - around 4 am the lights and air conditioning suddenly went off and the water stopped coming. Only after we complained did they give us water and coffee and a deputy captain came down to talk to us. He told us that the three-hour delay in departure was not connected to what happened at sea during the night, but obviously none of us believed him….”.
