Naples. A healthcare system that is increasingly able to provide excellent responses to citizens' needs and has already proven itself worthy of the great challenge of the Universiade. "Our Acute Myocardial Infarction (AMI) Network, and more generally the healthcare system of the ASL Napoli 1 Centro, have already scored an important milestone for the Universiade. An involuntary test, but also a great satisfaction, because it saved a man's life." These were the words of Ciro Verdoliva, Special Commissioner of the ASL Napoli 1 Centro, referring to what happened in the past few hours. The case involved one of the athletes' companions who arrived in Naples, who suffered a sudden loss of consciousness (lipthymia). Just 20 minutes passed between the moment of his illness and his admission to the Ospedale del Mare in Ponticelli. The man underwent all the necessary tests and underwent a coronary angiography very quickly, which resolved what was discovered to be a myocardial infarction. "This is the reality of an AMI network that the regional government has strongly supported and which today saves hundreds of lives every year," explains Ciro Verdoliva. "A network that also works thanks to the immense professionalism of the women and men who are its essential cogs." ASL Napoli 1 Centro also welcomes the entry into service of five additional Type B ambulances from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. and one Type A (medicalized) ambulance 24 hours a day. These emergency vehicles will be in service for the entire duration of the Universiade, also to respond to any medical needs related to the large influx of tourists expected for the event. Supporting the Universiade are two medical motorcycles (in agreement with the Italian Red Cross) that will operate the 118 ASL Napoli 1 Centro emergency service, allowing for much faster response times than would be possible with ambulances alone. This is an important test to evaluate the effectiveness of these resources in reducing response times, especially considering that the motorcycles will continue to serve the city in the coming months.
