A 52-year-old fruit and vegetable entrepreneur from Poggiomarino has been reported for commercial fraud by the Carabinieri of the environmental, agri-food and forestry police investigative unit. The Carabinieri discovered the fraud by carrying out routine checks in 2 supermarkets, one in Naples and one in Poggiomarino, where they carried out in-depth checks on packages of lettuce labeled “bio” produced in Poggiomarino. From there, the investigations were directed to the company indicated on the label and it was discovered that that company name corresponds only to offices: the entrepreneur had not reported the use of any land for organic cultivation for his business, therefore the vegetables could not be produced there. The company only affixed the “bio” label which therefore indicated the origin, place of processing and place of packaging of the product completely different from the real ones, thus defrauding the trade. In addition to the complaint, the man was given administrative sanctions of 40 thousand euros.
