Numerous State Police officers guarded the building, even carrying out a light charge to prevent the protesters from entering the town hall. After a brief respite, they were allowed to enter, and as soon as Mayor Cecilia Francese began her speech, she was immediately challenged: "You must resign," several residents shouted, "Go home." The session then resumed without any major incidents.
Vincenzo Inverso, leader of the #perunnuovoinizio movement, is once again calling on the mayor to resign: "The massive police presence in the City Council is proof of the end and total failure of this administration and of Mayor Francese. If you won't listen to us, at least listen to the people of Battipaglia."
