INWARD Osservatorio Nazionale sulla Creatività Urbana, a cultural institution that has been a partner of the Google Cultural Institute since late 2017, announces the first results of its collaboration with Google Arts & Culture, the technological platform developed by Google to promote and preserve culture online, with its first session of more than 350 works from the Digital Collection of Italian street art and the initial participation of more than 50 street artists.
Street art: the digital collection
The first phase of the work has led to the digitalization of the first 350 works by more than 50 Italian street artists, to which will be added, in the coming months, dozens of new artists and hundreds of new works. Among the most representative of the different styles of Italian street art already online: Gio Pistone, Universo (2017), Neve, Leucosia (2017) Alberonero, Mañana 100 toni (2016) and Corn79, Blu Cerebrale (2016).
In addition to these names, the most important Italian street artists have already joined the digital platform, such as: Rosk&Loste, Peeta, Orticanoodles, Mattia Campo Dall'Orto, Matteo Brogi, Kerotoo, La Fille Bertha, Ironmould, Gue, Gola, G.loois, Giulio Vesprini, Luigi Loquarto (Gig), Geometric Bang, Rmogrl 8120 (Gabriele Romei), Flycat, Mr. Fijodor, Fabio Petani, Daniele Nitti, Camilla Falsini, Alessandra Carloni, Coquicolt Mafille, Davide Brioschi, Manu Invisible, Ale Senso, Dado, Ozmo, Alessio Bolognesi, Gomez, Andrea Tarli, Alessandro Suzzi, Joys, Koso, Mate, Vera Bugatti, Edf Crew, Fabio Della Ratta, Luispak, Noeyes, Teresa Sarno, Naf-Mk, Massimo Sirelli, Nabla&Zibe, Raro, Kiki Skipi, Zeus40, Xel, Iabo and Crisa.
Parco dei Murales: the virtual visit with Street View
Using Google Street View technology, it is possible to take a 360-degree virtual tour of the “Parco dei Murales”, a program of urban creativity for the social conceived and produced by INWARD in the eastern suburbs of Naples. In the coming months, the possibility of bringing the experimentation to other territorial systems of street art present in Italy will be evaluated.
Digital Exhibitions: A Curatorial Principle
In the Italian street art Collection curated by INWARD, the first “thematic exhibitions” are available, which in this case experimentally organize street art productions by genre, between abstraction and illustration, geometry and realism, figurative and lettering, thus stimulating an unprecedented segmentation of the phenomenon, a brand new curatorial idea to be developed in the near future.
Google Arts & Culture
Google Arts & Culture is Google's platform for people to explore art, artifacts, and more from more than 1800 museums, archives, and organizations that have worked with the Google Cultural Institute to share their collections and stories online. Available on the web on laptops and mobile devices, or via iOS and Android apps, the platform is designed as a place to explore and savor art and culture online. Google Arts & Culture is a creation of the Google Cultural Institute.
INWARD National Observatory on Urban Creativity
INWARD is a national institution that has been working on the valorization of street art for more than fifteen years, with its own research and development model in the public, private, non-profit and international sectors. "The opportunity that Google Arts & Culture is offering to our Observatory and to the entire phenomenon of street art through the Collections and above all with the Exhibitions - says Luca Borriello, INWARD research director - is to digitally enjoy countless masterpieces organized in classes, allowing us to discover that stylistic categories now exist, in Italy and beyond: the maturity of street art today is shown for example in realistic portraits, in the tradition of lettering, in illustrative silhouettes, in abstract or geometric forms, in infinite figurations and in chromatic or material variations. Knowing such a heritage on Google Arts & Culture also means encouraging a new form of curatorship, an excellent starting point for new job opportunities especially for the youngest".
