For the opening of the new literary season of the Giacomo Leopardi Social Library, and for the presentation of the special section of the Una Città Che Scrive Literary Award reserved for the “100 years of Gianni Rodari”, on October 4th the “maestro”, who is among the 33 personalities awarded at the end of 2018 by the President of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella, will intervene with his 3-wheeler loaded with books, which made him famous throughout Italy.
Specifically, La Cava, a retired teacher from Matera, was awarded the title of Commander of the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic "for his lifelong commitment to promoting the value of culture."
For almost twenty years, in fact, La Cava, on board a special 3-wheeler, transformed into a traveling library, has brought books to children in elementary schools in the smallest and most isolated towns of Basilicata, where there are often no libraries or bookstores.
"Maestro La Cava will arrive in Casalnuovo at 10.00:4 in the morning on October XNUMXth and will tour the streets of the city and the schools that want to welcome him together with the children. I believe it can represent an important experience to show to the new generations, as well as a useful initiative to promote reading", these are the words of Giovanni Nappi, founder of the Social Library and the Literary Award Una Città Che Scrive.
“Gianni Rodari Special Section“
For the 2020 edition, which will expire in May of next year, the “School” section of the “Una Città Che Scrive” Literary Award will be dedicated to the 100th anniversary of “Gianni Rodari” and the theme will be “Short stories and nursery rhymes for children and young people, inspired by the creativity of the great writer”.
Children, school-age kids and, for the first time, teachers of all levels will be able to participate.
The “Giacomo Leopardi” Social Library will also make available to the City, through “library loans”, all of Gianni Rodari’s works, purchased specifically for this purpose.
The appointment for the presentation of the initiative is for October 4th at 19.00:148 pm at the Biblioteca Sociale Giacomo Leopardi, in Via Roma XNUMX, a private side street, in Casalnuovo di Napoli.
