Napoli Milionaria aims to represent change, the evolution between tradition and modernity. With a journey that began about two years ago, covering famous songs by Mario Merola, Ciro Ricci, Franco Ricciardi, and Tommy Riccio, Napoli Milionaria has sparked a clash/meeting between generations, producing a mind-blowing soundscape. They may spark discussion or even outrage, but their music captures reality!
41Bi$, 17 & Young Ciro – these are the pseudonyms behind which the Napoli Milionaria collective, which operates between London, Geneva and Naples, hides – present their first unreleased song entitled “'A nuttata è passa”.
The title is a post-modern reinterpretation of “Adda passà a' nuttata”, the historic exclamation of resignation, but with an optimistic tone, by Eduardo De Filippo which, translated to the present day, also summarises the current moment in which national civil society finds itself.
In NM's music and lyrics there is the desire to give oneself hope by reacting by giving the best of oneself. So, like good Neapolitan philosophers, NM takes a step forward and starts again from the following day.
It is with patience that it is possible to get out of the crisis and now the time has come to roll up our sleeves.
In the video of “'A nuttata è passa”, imagined and written by Napoli Milionaria, and curated by directors Gianfranco Antacido and Antimo Campanile (Alaska Film), the impact between amazement, sacrilege and (childish) blasphemy are guided by a strong religious feeling that merges with superstition; that is, the typical elements that characterize both the Miracle and the philosophy of life of the Neapolitans.
“Discovery” is another characterizing element that involves the young protagonists of the video who, amazed, recognize their city from a new point of view.
Finally Vesuvius: the beloved volcano in the video explodes elegantly representing – in a paradox – a further sign of change. A catastrophic signal that could generate “detachment and annoyance” in the viewer but that certainly leaves you speechless. The characterizing element of Napoli Milionaria is neomelodic music, the much maligned subculture that the upper class, and the counter-culture, have always seen with a mix of contempt and irony. Instead, this musical and social phenomenon, born and raised among a thousand ideas, and high economic benefits, we find it in the current urban culture scene that Naples expresses on a national scale contributing to re-designing the “brandNaples”.
Musically, Napoli Milionaria have developed the definitive mix by bringing together (consciously?) the popular and common subculture with the national popular model that rides the hype of hip hop and urban, becoming a deadly Neapolitan mix.
