Starting tomorrow and running through September 15th, "Maretica" returns to Procida: three days of meetings, events, and sports to "rethink humanity through the sea." Now in its fifth year, the event draws inspiration from the sea for an original format that blends sports, gastronomy, and culture. This year's literary prize, the Maretica, was awarded to Danish writer Siri Jacobsen's "Isola" by a jury chaired by Alessandro Baricco. The award will be presented to the author on Saturday evening during the awards ceremony, hosted by Baricco and Daria Bignardi. During the ceremony, Baricco will interview Marc Reig Creus, commander of the NGO Open Arms, and Vincenzo Ambrosino, who was aboard the Savyna Caylyn when the ship was seized by Somali pirates, discussing the topic of "Safeguarding Human Life at Sea." As usual, the Maretica 2019 program also includes sports competitions: the preliminary races will be held on Saturday morning from 10:00 a.m. at Chiaiolella, followed by the final races on Sunday of the “Trofeo del Mare di Procida – V Repubblica marinara,” a national coastal rowing competition between representatives of the regional committees organized by Canottieri Isola di Procida and the Italian Rowing Federation.
