A large mural dedicated to Nadia Toffa has appeared among the buildings in Taranto's Salinella district. The image depicts the smiling reporter and host of the Italia 1 program, dressed as "Iena," who passed away on August 13 after a long battle with cancer. Three photos were posted on the "Le Iene" Facebook page, showing the artist working on the painting on the wall of a building on Via Lago di Monticchio, accompanied by the phrase "Grazie Taranto." Meanwhile, tens of thousands of signatures have been collected on the online petition, active on the Change.Org platform, to name the pediatric oncology department of Taranto's Santissima Annunziata Hospital after Nadia Toffa, who was awarded honorary citizenship of Taranto on January 14. The award was recognized "for her battles," the citation states, "for the health of the people of Taranto, especially children, a health constantly threatened by pollution from the steelworks." Nadia Toffa had been the face of the charity campaign selling T-shirts with the slogan "Ie jesche pacce pe te" (I'm crazy about you), conceived by friends of the Mini Bar in the Tamburi neighborhood, the most exposed to emissions from the steelworks. The campaign raised over €500, which also paid for the hiring of a pediatrician in the oncology department.
