On Thursday, September 26, at 6:00 PM, the Gran Caffè Gambrinus will host the presentation of the book "Abbecedario costumato" (Rogiosi Editore), written by Mario Avallone. The author will be joined by writer and journalist Gianni Valentino and Domenico Ciruzzi, President of the Fondazione Premio Napoli.
“Don’t give me advice: I know I’m wrong myself,” Pitigrilli used to say. More than an aphorism, it seems like an appropriate epitaph for a satiated man who lived his life intensely. Custom is lacking and is lacking in an era in which we know everything beforehand and almost everything is now useless.
Is being good still useful? For whom? Is it worth it!?
The alphabet goes beyond doubts and certainties, it does not give advice or recipes, it lists in an elementary way the idea-dream of how beautiful it would be if we were all kinder, more available, more open and less against everyone; if we were all just good people. Just like that!
The Abbecedario costumato is a journey through the meanings of words that could help us live better if we took them more into account, from affability to cosmopolitanism, from elegance to taste, from identity to loyalty. A journey that manifests itself through short and essential reflections, accompanied by nice emoticons.
Mario Avallone, born in 1959, is a chef. He has chosen to cook all his life and sometimes tries to write. Among his other works: Squisitezze (Storie in 32/Edizioni Dante&Descartes, 2000), and OO Onnivori Opportunisti – Trattatello di Fisiognomica Culinaria (ESA Edizioni Scientifiche Artistiche, 2013).
