Vincenzo Iorio, former councilor of Acerra, who resigned as municipal police commissioner on September 3rd for "personal reasons," has been sent to trial. He is accused of aggravated fraud against the Municipality. The allegations date back to 2015, when the former councilor was a city councilor. According to the charges, he took paid leave for unperformed official duties for a total of 24 hours in November, causing damage to the institution amounting to a few hundred euros. The charges were brought after the company for which the then councilor worked, the private security firm for the FCA plant in Pomigliano d'Arco, fired him and reported him for abusing official leave to take time off work. On September 11th, the Municipality joined the proceedings as a civil party as the "injured party." The former councilor is accused of fraud, with the aggravating circumstance of having committed the act to the detriment of a public entity. The trial will begin in December. "My client's indictment," says Mimmo Paolella, the former councilor's attorney, "does not reflect his responsibility. We will go to trial and demonstrate his innocence in the contested facts in the manner permitted by the trial."
