A Batman comic book collection is being created in Naples. To mark the 80th anniversary of the masked hero, DC Comics, the comic book publisher, has organized celebrations around the world, and in Naples, the collection will be created at the National Library. Under the patronage of DC Comics itself, the Library's partnership with RW Edizioni, the exclusive publisher of DC comics in Italy, will result in the donation of several collections. And starting in October 2019, every new Batman comic book series from the publisher will arrive at the library. The books will enhance the comic book collection in the Lucchesi Palli section, creating a dedicated collection dedicated to the superhero, with the specific aim of instilling comic book culture in new generations. "One of the tasks of a Library like the Naples National Library," says BNN Director Francesco Mercurio, "is to welcome and promote, in its collections, the diverse forms of expression and the diverse textual and visual languages of contemporary times." The event is accompanied by a grand celebration at the Library. Visitors will be able to embark on a journey through the history of Batman, from his first appearance in Detective Comics #27 in May 1939, published by New York-based DC Comics and illustrated by Bob Kane, to his recent, uncelebrated marriage to his beloved Catwoman, and finally to his archenemy, the Joker. A series of images reconstructed through publications by RW Edizioni and reproductions of original panels from key comics such as The Dark Knight Returns, Year One, The Killing Joke, and The Long Halloween. From room to room, like a long strip, fans young and old will be able to read key episodes on large panels, as well as a short story, "An Innocent Guy," written and illustrated by Brian Bolland, based on the masterpiece, The Killing Joke. The Italian School of Comics of Naples will also be present at the Batman party: comic book characters, artists, and Batman fans will gather from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. in the Library's large reading room, where non-stop happenings, screenings, performances, and workshops for children and teens are planned. The event will feature artist Marco Castiello with a live performance dedicated to the superhero, and cosplayers from the Altanur association, drawn from the Batman universe, will welcome guests young and old. The initiative is part of the special opening of the National Library of Naples on Sunday, September 22, scheduled for the 2019 Heritage Days, dedicated to art.
