Venice. Three people were killed and a fourth was injured in a boating accident this evening in Venice. According to initial reports from firefighters, an offshore vessel crashed into the San Nicoletto dam, in the Lunata area of Punta Sabbioni, killing three of the vessel's occupants. Firefighters and Port Authority vehicles are on scene. The bodies of the first two victims were recovered immediately, while a third crew member was reported missing. He was located shortly afterward, also deceased, by firefighters. The accident, in pitch darkness, reportedly occurred in front of the "lunata," an artificial dam made of large rocks lowered to the seabed, built to protect the MOSE structures, south of the San Nicolo' dam on the Lido.
