From cleaning areas and paths in national parks to requalifying gardens and green areas in cities to cleaning beaches and seabeds. Volunteers of all ages, ethnicities and religions, many schools, local governments and green companies, but also migrants, homeless people: in Campania over 30 thousand volunteers are committed to cleaning and redeveloping over 350 areas from abandoned waste, with the enthusiastic participation of hundreds of schools. These are the numbers of the 27th edition of Puliamo il Mondo, the historic environmental volunteering campaign organized by Legambiente this weekend
"A battle of civilization but also a gesture of love for the surrounding environment. This is the spirit that characterized the great environmental weekend of Clean Up the World, a historic campaign by Legambiente. Many people - commented Mariateresa Imparato, president of Legambiente Campania - rolled up their sleeves to clean up streets and squares, corners of the city, urban parks, but also river banks and beaches from abandoned waste. A sign that gives hope because young people no longer want to stand by and watch, they want to concretely help the environment starting from everyday life, because there is no more time to waste."
Responsible citizenship starting from schools with the participation of thousands of students in the municipalities of the Cilento, Vallo di Diano and Alburni National Park and the Vesuvius National Park where students together with many groups of volunteers were engaged in cleaning paths and recreational areas.
Other initiatives in the Quisisana woods in Castellammare di Stabia where the area adjacent to the “Fontane del Re” was cleaned; in Naples, in the Scampia district, with the cleaning of the “Garden of the five continents of nonviolence” in Largo Battaglia.
The main initiative took place in Naples, in the San Giovanni a Teduccio neighborhood, where the volunteer day was organized in collaboration with the Fondazione Famiglia di Maria with the cleaning of the square in front of the Foundation, which a few days ago was the victim of a vile act of intimidation: some gunshots were fired against the entrance door. A concrete cleaning and co-responsibility initiative that saw the participation of many citizens in the neighborhood, the schools of the area, the volunteers and workers of the Fondazione Famiglia di Maria, of Libera, of the kids of the Teatro Nest to reiterate that together we will continue with more strength to realize the path of change in that territory and contribute to a new season that no bullet, no intimidation will be able to stop.
