Users of the Xtream Codes platform, seized by the Guardia di Finanza as part of the Naples prosecutor's investigation into television piracy, face fines ranging from €2.500 to €25. At the time of the shutdown, there were 700 users connected, and a potential total of 5 million. With a €12 monthly subscription, they were able to watch programs broadcast on major pay TV and pay-per-view platforms.
“We will identify the Italian users and they will be prosecuted,” explained Colonel Giovanni Reccia, commander of the Special Unit for the Protection of Privacy and Technological Fraud. The investigation, carried out in collaboration with Eurojust, is targeting 25 individuals, including two Greeks, creators of the platform. The organization is based in Naples, with connections in 9 Italian cities. In the preventive seizure order for web resources, current accounts and debit cards, against the suspects, the investigating judge of Naples emphasizes that “a sophisticated organized fraud system aimed at capturing and distributing products intended for pay TV was found, with significant damage to the rights holders and evident frustration of the free market.” The technicians of the anti-fraud department of Sky collaborated in the investigations.
